Louie,
Back when I still lived in Europe (~10 years ago) I once was in the Augsburg area and stopped there to have a look at the course. I think it was the very first artificial whiewater course in the world, built for the 1972 Olympics.
I did not paddle it, just walked along it and looked at it.
It is essentially a winding concrete ditch with a box profile with mainly fixed obstacles and a few that were adjustable.

Think South Bend with more "rocks", holes and a bit steeper. Very artificial feeling, with weird eddies and surges.
The thing that I remember most is that the obstacles and sides had a nice coat of slippery slime when I was there in August '89.
Lots of tubers too.
