attaching T grip? any tips?

Post by James »

attaching a wooden T grip to an aluminum paddle shaft. Any tips? I have a polyurethane waterproof glue I might try. First time I drilled a hole and used a screw to keep it in place, but the threads in the paddle shaft stripped soon afterwards.

Try this, it has worked so far on wood to wood and wood to carbon. It is available at most hardware stores.

It helps if the shaft and the wood are oval, not round, and the fit is nice and tight. Use coarse sandpaper on the inside of the aluminum tube and the wood. It will help the mechanical bond. Sometimes, I will drill several small holes in the aluminum or die-grind divits on the inside too.
