BC Online River Guide

Post by Jan_dettmer »

Howdy,

Some friends and I are working on this online river guide for BC. It is still very alpha but I would lobe to get some input from you guys. There are still a lot of empty entries but content will grow with time.
You can most easily access the rivers that have descriptions by checking
the link "River Map"

The link to the page is:
http://www.open-canoe.de/vi-ww-blog/ind ... river-map/

(This map does need a fairly recent web browser. If you cannot see anything, it might be necessary to upgrade the version of your browser, firefox works well.)

Thanks, Jan

I'm impressed and think you should make a template available for any area that wishes to post their local runs.

I noticed that the RRS feeds takes you to html, was that the intent?

I liked the fact that several contributors were involved.

Very welll done!

You could add a link in the link section to north water if you are a fan of their stuff like me.

Although the map did not work for me using MS Explorer on a Mac, I'm familiar with Google Map.

My preference would be an opening page with the rivers listed by region and difficulty. The map is fancy but it's too hard for someone not familiar with the area to get information quickly.

Thanks for the input!
BobP, I have a list with regions. That is the first thing you'll see
when clicking river guide on the page.

I want to do something like a river search
for certain grades and areas that then pops up a list and a map. Since I do all this in lunchbreaks it might take a while though :-) But I think you are right, it is a must to have a list with difficulties.

Paddle Power: the Rss does not work yet. I gotta get it to work for new rivers added but can't figure it out yet.

Personally, I really like the map visualisation that google offers. It helps me
to get directions right away, too. All these BC runs are pretty hard to find.

Cheers, Jan

That is a great site. I have it on my fav. link. I am still ticked off the Caplano cam is not up, it was nice to go paddling right after work. Darn.
