I love my Titanic!

Wouldn't that be a good boat name?

What would be some other good ones? How about "the Bomb," or "the Life" (that way your friends could tell you, "Get a life," and you could point to your roof rack.

What about "The Bill Parcells?"

Wavesport has a boat out right now called "The Project" - what about a boat called "The Hype?" Pyranha has a boat now called the 420, what calling the follow-up "The Reefer?"

These are just suggestions . . .

after all, we had a boat called "The Atom" - what were those guys thinking about - chemistry? And my boat is "The Blunt." What were those guys thinking about? Probably the same thing as Jacques and Kaz when they named "The Spark" and "The Ignitor" . . .

Filobobos sounds like an interesting name. If you know the English translation of Filobobos let us know. Filo probably has some attachment to the word for love.

How about Rio Filo or river love:

Sounds like I have to much time and too little water in East Tennessee

A few questions if I might.....

Is the Blunt a creek boat? How is it as a river runner?
What do you race/train in?
What would be your favorite boat or two for slalom racing both C1 and OC1 variety?

Your experience and insights much appreciated.

If I ever find a boat that holds me close, fires up the loins and responds to every nuance of movement I'm going to call it the Tango.

hey heidi,

i think the tango would be a good name. as for your questions, the blunt is indeed a great creek boat - stable, dependable. As a river runner, it's all those same things, which makes it a little boring.

i race and paddle in a millbrook super dynamic c-1, which is a good boat. i have tried out a bunch of the newer, shorter designs from Europe, and they spin much faster. i should probably get a new slalom boat, but I just haven't yet.

My favorite open boat for racing is the Millbrook Ignitor (the same one used to make the Spark). Great boat.

My big Nomad is usually called the "Queen of Esquimalt" since it is pretty big.
(Esquimalt is the harbour here in Victoria)
It was an insult at first from my kayaker "friends" that came along with them making noises that were meant to resemble the fog horn of a big ship.

I think it's a pretty good name though since it sounds nothing like a creek boat and I don't dig the "lets run the large steaming pile of dog doo"-talk too much.

Cheers, Jan

I always thought a kayak company called "Sick Kayaks" with models such as the:
Herpes - River Running Playboat
Syphillus - All out wave surfin' machine, high performance playboat
HIV - Serious creekboat that only runs the hair

And of course, the Mononucleosis for their C-1 creekboat.

Okay, okay, perhaps a little vulgar and immature but I thought it was funny.

Alden.... I'm betting you've tried the "SpanishFly" a few times. :P Any Luck?

The shaping room at Wavesport is called the "Ghetto"--hence the "project' name! Have you seen Joe in it yet? He claims he likes it.

Esquif has the Salsa rather than the Tango---"close but no cigar" (William Jefferson Clinton)

As for Wills ideas.....ummm? How about the "colon cancer"--- becasue with names like that you are bound to get your a$$ kicked.

Millbrook Boats already has the "Tango". It's still "top secret" for now(for another month or so).
In addition to the Rumba and the Cha-Cha.

will,
now that is original. yes, joe does like that project boat i think. he paddles for wavesport now, although my guess is that all those companies are owned by the same conglomerate which is actually owned by a company owned by craig smerda.

And speaking of boat design, one amazing story I recently read is that the Prijon Topo, the really short, blunt creek boat (not the Topoduo), but the one that is like 7 feet long and blunt - that boat came out in 19-frickin-80. can you believe that? i mean, that boat is small by today's creek boat standards. supposedly guys were using it in germany, but apparently not to the extent that it caught on over in the US. Otherwise . . . that could have changed a lot of stuff.

You know what another cool boat design story is - the German C-2 team that recently won the Worlds (senft and bahmann? i cant remember) did not use the hot new boat designed by the Hochshorners (the slovakian twins who race C-2). even though they conceded that the Hochshorners made a better boat, they still went with the slower one because they did not want to give the hochshorners the psychological advantage. so the germans raced their own boat and won. pretty cool.
