I'd be real interested to hear thoughts on the Mamba as C1.

I'm thinking that the 8.0 or 8.5 with it's 27" beam might make a better C1 than the 7.5 with its 25.5' beam.
Kind of looks like the Taureau only you can put a skirt on it.

Hey Guys, I have also been struggling with what boat to get as a C-1 Creeker. IMHO the Mamba is a little light on stability, not something you want in a creeker. And that observation is from butt boatin it, i dont think it would be any better kneeling on a 7 inch saddle. Im goin Diesel 75.

Stricly from a butt boat point of view I find the Mamba 8.5 very stable. Certainly no less stable than the Diesel 75, the Mamba 8.5 is wider and longer than the 75 so it should be more stable, but a bit more edgy. I'm packin close to 220 after the holidays closer to 210 when I started playing with K1's. Of course sitting in a boat is a LOT more stable than kneeling. Comming from a Zoom to a sit down Mamba is like going from standing on a beach ball to sitting in a lazy boy. Hard to fall over but you can't see much. :o

I have never paddled one, but have heard it's a popular conversion. Also, from all the kayakers I know who have tried it, everyone has loved it, and it seems very popular. I've heard it's stable, and incredilby easy to roll.

Im a little light anyhow

Im only 180 and in the 8.5 i felt that i got pushed around alot. I also think that the stronger secondary stability of the Diesel is a great attribute. If I where heavier the Mamba would probably be more similar. I have also heard from some of my creekin buddies that the Mamba like to backender more so than the Diesel. However its all good.

All those flat bottomed boats are pretty stable. I have a Diesel 65 and its awesome. As a Kayak the Mambas are really stable. I think they should be good as a C1.
The Nomads are certainly as stable as it gets, especially on edge.

Width is not everything in stability....IMO

Cheers, Jan

Hello,,

I have a mamba C-1 and I love it. I converted the 8.5 and I am about 210 lbs. I use it for light creekeing, safty boating, and longer river trips. The boat has great stability and track very well. It is a very comfortable c-1.
