Adam/PAC/others?
please give me some insight on the acrobats that are on the Angst board. Specifically for me at 195lbs and looking to try 1) a true squirtboat 2) learning to flatwater cartwheel 3) downtime? in a local seam on the augusta canal (deep water/no rocks but lots of current) would the wicked cut boat or the slightly shortened boat be better. Would either of these help me in learning how to get my third end while trying to cartwheel (a Z) in a hole? I paddle a z and a viper. My quess is that the "wicked cut" would scare me and i may only use it on flatwater while the slightly cut would not be scary but i may not be able to cartwheel/sink easily?
Also when these acrobats are cut are they all shortened to some set length or is it arbitrary? Is 450 for the wicked cut and more for the slightly cut sound reasonable? Or wait for the Maven to go into production?
thank you for any info, david m

I'll email the info Brian was nice enough to send me on the 2 boats. As for if they make sense to buy how "scared" do you want to be!
Actually if I had the cash I would have the wicked cut just to play around a bit. Might be "scary" but you'll get so goos so quick if you stick with it. Lord knows I need to learn more about squirting a C.
I sold my Viper after I go the Acrobat because the Arco was more fun in ii-iii! Once you get the emails PM and we can chat - I have the flu so I'm a bit out of things right now if now of this makes any sense! Paul C.

It depends on what weight the boat was cut for.
At your weight, Brian's acrobat (the super chopped one) would be QUITE an experience. Might frighten you away, too. I'd start with the "other" one, which i don't know what he's asking. Which is good, because it sounds like it's in GREAT shape.
There are two things to consider with any Acrobat:
1) Size-"Standard" cut is long-ish, "Master cut" is a bit over 10', depending on the exact cut. The Master Cut is better for cartwheels, etc... at the same weight cut. The "Standard" is better for river running and cruising, as it's faster. Both are a lot of fun.
2) Cut (weight cut)-a "low cut" will have the stern underwater and the bow out a touch. A lot of fun, but not for the faint of heart. Good for easy water and park and play. A "medium cut" for your weight will be a better cruiser with bow / stern squirt fun, but you will most likely not be able to mystery it. Better in bigger water, though (I'm confortable in my "meduim" cut Acrobat (standard) up to class IV or so (Hudson Gorge, Ottawa, etc...). I've been meaning to run the Master cut down, but it will be a thrilling experience....
The Maven is in production, so to speak. We're still ironing out fit and finish. I can provide a pretty firm price for just the halves, (as in you seam it and put in a cockpit rim), and shortly for a complete boat. E-mail me with your requirements and I'llg get you a price. Depending on layup, we're talking a range of 500 for just the halves and a lot of glass in the layup for about 1200 for a complete boat, unless you get crazy with the graphics....

I'm 190lbs. I can cartwheel my 1/2" cut Acrobat on flatwater. I'm pretty comfortable in class III water with it too.
My master cut Acrobat carthwheels real fast
I had to slow it down so that I could keep up. I am not ready for class III water in it yet
It tends to bow stall on me when the going gets tough. I'll stick with II for now. I bought the master cut after trying Adam's. I use it for park & play when the rapids are washed out & all I have to play on is eddylines.

David,
I have a full cut acrobat, I got a few months ago- your welcome to borrow it -We're close to the same weight-I've only been on the river 2-3 times since October
so I actually haven't tried it yet myself. I'm switching schedules soon, to give me more river time.
How's the Spanish FLy holding up?

Bill, David -
I'll see what I can do to get a good level on the Saluda for you guys to demo the boat with.
Bill -
You aren't headed up the eastern seaboard anytime soon?

Nope- Maybe AL or Arkansas though- Hopefully the Armada.
But otherwise I'm not headed up the coast anytime soon- though I may be headed up towards richmond relatively soon. If that helps with any shuttles
