now if we just had some water...
that jefe will be a solid boat. i'd also like to hear about a magnum or a burn. anybody tried these?
will, if it ever rains again you should come up to the blackwater. we're having a bachelor party for willy the weekend of cheat fest, i've also got the first and last weekend of april free, but working the other 3 weekends. watch the blackwater gauge at hendricks and if it's on the way down and in between 225 and 350, that's a good intro level. if it's between 350 and 500, it's starting to get push and you want to know the lines or be right on someone's tail. let me know if you're ever up this way.

That's true, last year I got, not knowing anything about the run, talked talked by a few kayakers into running it :-? at what was a flow of about 600 :o and got thoroughly spanked right away  ... I hiked back out after less than a mile of the run...

Well, got a good little intro to the Jefe this weekend with some highwater Big Creek on saturday and then Big Creek again at medium-low flows on Sunday.
Big creek is a super continuous creek with several good drops and tight moves on it. At 3.5' it gets really pushy and some huge holes start to form. At 2.5' like on sunday it's much more manageable but quite "pinny."
The Jefe handled great both days. I just put the saddle in where I thought it looked good, bolted 'er up and headed to the river. Seems to be good placement. The boat boofs well, is extremely stable (secondary stability is incredible on this boat) and acclerates well. It does turn easily, but I didn't have any more problems with it than the Blunt on trying to stay on line. Rides up and over holes well, and if you go deep it'll rocket back to the surface in control. Good volume distribution front to rear so it dosen't plow or backender like the blunt did. So far I really like this boat, it may be the best creekboat I have paddled. We'll see when I go back to the Green (if it ever runs again) and then I can really compare it to the Blunt. The only thing that is wierd about it is when you boof or if you let the bow drop going over a steep pourover it wants to turn one way or the other because of the huge rocker. It feels like the kind of boat that will take care of you though. By the way, I'm about 155lbs dry.
