wood gunnels on a detonator?

Anyone see a reason not to put wood gunnels on a detonator? I really like them, and think it will make the boat lighter. I also have a few weeks on my hands while an injury heals.

Thanks!

Best to use Ash only. For creeking 5/8's by 5/8's min. for gunwale diameter. It will be tough to turn the radius at the bow..did it come with deck plates? If so , Id use them. . cheers

thanks!!

Helen, wood is good. It will look great on your Detonator. Don't know where you are planning to buy your ash, but when I did my Ocoee, I went to OP Hardwoods on Chestnut. And for a small fee, they will plane it, rip it, and rout it for you. Please feel free to give me a call if you have questions on how I did mine.

 Likewise, you have my sympathy on getting hurt. You really should have waited until about August to do that!

Terry

thanks you guys!

I really missed paddling this weekend and seeing everybody...tried lying to myself that I needed to get much ignored chores done which I did, but it was such a gorgeous weekend! can't even ride my bike because of my shift/brake finger!

oh well, saving up vacation time in the meantime...missed you guys (& gals)!

terry, can you email me your phone number so I can get started on this gunnel deal? thanks!
