glueing to ABS-vinyl combo

Where I need to glue in minicell knee pads, part of the bottom is the vinyl, and part is an ABS patch.

I assume contact cement will work on the ABS as is does on the vinyl.

What if I'm glueing a vinly-based d-ring over ABS, or ABS and vinyl?

Can I use the vinyl-to-vinyl products on the ABS sheet?

I assume you know that the solvent in Vynabond will soften ABS. Some claim that it makes the whole sandwich smooshy, though I haven't seen that myself.

I have used contact cement on vynyl without a problem. I do not know whether it would affect ABS.

The safest course of action would be to use the two part polyurethane made by 3M. I do not remember the exact name, but it is called something like Structural Urethane Adhesive. You will need to lightly sand and thoroughly clean the surfaces. I have had pretty good experience with it.

My feeling about D-rings for thigh straps is that they put a tremendous stress on the ABS sandwich. I try to support the thighs in other ways, such as by a thwart passing over the thighs, combined with minicell to control lateral thigh movement.

I am less concerned about d-rings used just for tying in gear.
