Hudson Armada Poll:)

Post by Sir Adam »

The Hudson Armada (more info in a separate post), possibly in conjunction with a "Historic CBoat Armada" - run the Gorge Saturday, mess around in "old" historic C1's, Squirt C1's, and the like on Sunday morning.

Earlier will be warmer, closer into October will be more fall colors.

Please note: Hudson Gorge is class III / IV wilderness run, about 18 miles total. You need to have a good roll. The water may be warm or cool, and the weather may be 70's and sunny or 40 and drizzle - we've seen both in past fall Armadas....

Out of curiousity, who else is interesting in coming? I know J. may be able to make it, depending on the date...and that LEW and I will be around:)

PAC? Jon? Martin? Kelly-Rand? Anyone that's in New England (for once it's a shorter drive!)?

I'm happy to put some effort into throwing a first-class event (perhaps even with Hudson Armada CBoats.net T-shirts...), if there's enough interest....

Adam I'm interested but the cost of the drive / time and available vacation time from work are saying no! I looked at airfare (based on the pick up offer) and its a bit much and not very direct for me. Not saying an absolute no but put me down for doubtful! Things have been known to change so I'm going to think positive! :-)
I'll keep you posted and thanks for the offer - based on what I read and hear it looks like a very nice paddle (not to mention nice folks to paddle with)! Paul C.

Adam,

Not sure yet, it will depend on work, but if the Hudson Armada is on either September 9/10 or Sept30/October1, then there is a fair chance that I will be there!

Sept. is coming up soon.
Here is a link to some photos of the Hudson Gorge. Unfortunately I don't have many good shots of rapids, I guess I'm usually too busy paddling.
Some were taken 2 weeks ago when the level was 2.5'. It was the lowest I have ever done it. The rapids were still quite good, with plenty of play. There was also more than enough water to get through the few shallow rapids.

What boat?

Post by the great gonzo »

Nice pictures LEW!
I hope Lil'D and you had a good time at the Ottawa in August.

What boat do you Hudson regulars recommend, considering the water levels. Is glass still o.k, or would you recommend plastic?
Is a full-cut Acrobat appropriate, or would I be abusing it? (I have taken mine sucessfuly down the Ottaw, and took PAC's down the Lower Yough Yesterday (Thanks again PAC for letting me use it as well as for your hospitality during the Ohiopyle overr the Falls Festival) without doing any damage to it or getting thrashed in it).

and boat...

Martin - Full cut Acrobat is fine, I usually take my Viper, standard cut (full length, but cut) Acrobat, or Fantic II down. I keep threatenting the wheelboy or master cut Acro, but both are more "summertime" boats. Most likely I'll take one of the first three down, unless I go retro and try the Descender, Magnet, or Hahn :o for fun.

That said, if I had a Sith, I'd take that 8)

I'll be closing the poll shortly (Friday morning) and posting what date we're a go for (right now it looks like the 9th and 10th, as a few folks that have not voted have passed on their opinions).

So Vote while ye can!

It can!

Post by adamin »

It can certainly happen out west Tiggy - just post that you'd like to hold one, when, where, and see if folks in surrounding states want to join you for a bit of Cboating:) That's how the original Concordia, started by Scott W. and DaveM all started-they started a forum with a 'wouldn't it be cool if we all got together to boat sometime' theme, and ended up with 100+ cboaters in DC.

My Hudson Armada's are always a lot smaller (I'm hoping for record attendence this year-let's try and get at least 10 CBoats on the water:), but we always have a blast.

well...

Well, if there is a large contingent of OC boaters from up your way that want to travel down, have them sway the vote to a different weekend:) Democracy rules here, usually anyway 8)
