Ohiopyle, PA – American Whitewater, the Pennsylvania Organization for Watersheds & Rivers, and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources announce that the Eighth Annual American Whitewater Ohiopyle Over-The-Falls Festival will be held August 26, 2006. Whitewater paddlers nationwide will gather there to race over the spectacular eighteen-foot waterfall in the picturesque mountain village of Ohiopyle. Spectators are invited to watch paddlers sprint and cartwheel, end-over-end, off the waterfall. In addition, we will again hold The Upstream World Championships.
Other event features include the Falls Under Lights, a Film Festival, Town Party, Live Music (706 Union), Silent Auction and food booths. The area also offers biking, hiking, camping, magnificent scenery, photographic opportunities, history and cultural activities. Please visit www.FallsRace.com for more information and registration details.

Here is the event schedule:

> Registration will begin at 8 AM in Ohiopyle State Park.
> 9:00 AM – 12 Noon: Waterfall Practice Runs keep an eye out for action in the upper horseshoe drop.
> 12 Noon: Two competitions: Falls Race - 200-yard whitewater course includes two-foot, four-foot and eighteen-foot drops.

> After race - Freestyle – Kayakers will surf the rapids above the waterfall's eighteen-foot drop, and do routines and cartwheels competitively, end-over-end, off the edge for points. Waterfall practice runs will continue afterwards until 5:00 PM.

> 6:15 PM: Upstream Race on Entrance rapid on the Youghiogheny River

> 7:30 PM: Ohiopyle Town Party
The party will feature a paddling film festival, live music, food booths, exhibits and a silent auction. 706 Union will play at the Town Party. In addition, lights will be cast on the eighteen-foot waterfall, making it a spectacular spectacle and party centerpiece. Food ventures include sushi fo yushi (http://www.sushifoyushi.com).

Proceeds benefit American Whitewater and the Ohiopyle Stewart Volunteer Fire Co. High water date or cancellation dates August 27 or Sept 17-18.

For additional questions contact Barry Adams at: bj2adams@juno.com or 412-242-4562. Volunteers needed. There is a discount and T-shirt for volunteers. This event is dependent on getting enough Safety boaters. We have lowered the fees and the time commitment for volunteers.

Hope to C some Cboats there!

PAC to KNeal, "Hey, wanna run Ohiopyle Falls in the c-2?"
KNeal to PAC, "I've never run the falls."
PAC to KNeal, "That's okay. I have."
KNeal to PAC, "Well, that make everything okay then! :D "

Should be interesting. Anyone else coming? I hear there will be some northerners attending. BTW, you can register onsite Saturday, though it'll cost ya $5 more.

What happens when you pair two "old fart" c-1'ers in an equally old composite slalom c-2 and have them race a course they've never tried on a set of rapids they've never paddled before?

It all depends on when the argument begins.

Falling down fun....

PAC to KNeal , "Yep, Dale won't run it with me again after last year's beat down!"
KNeal to PAC "Err, what?"
PAC to KNeal "Don't sweat it, we're both strong swimmers...and the video will be worth it! Besides your wife and kid will be watching! That will be SWEET!"
KNeal to PAC, "Err, ah, hummm...."

Falls to PAC and KNeal "BURP!!!"

Should be a few Canadians showing up to paddle (Martin and crew and others) with locals Big Al (and maybe some others).
BTW, if your registration is in today you save on the $5. But remember this is for AWA the local fire dept (who hump folks out of the LY with they get thumped and it is "tons" of fun)!

Hoping to C a bunch of U there! I'll be at the MWA (mountain watershed assocaition) booth and / or getting thumped with KNeal!

Yep 4-5 of us will show up at the falls race, so watch out for the carnage!
If my bud Steve makes it out as well, I'll bring my C2 as well and we can have our own C2 race!!

If anyone wants to try it, I will be bringing my Finkenmeister.

We will actually already drive down late Thursday to run the Upper Yough on Friday, so if anyone is interested in joining us, let me know!

My wife, Ellen, just saw the Falls Race registration form on the kitchen counter last night--here is the transcript from the conversation:

Ellen, "Are you planning on running a waterfall?"
KNeal, "Yep."
Ellen (now looking surprised), "A waterfall?" :o
KNeal (cracking a confident smile), "Oh, yeah." 8)
Ellen (giving a really concerned look), "A waterfall?" :(
KNeal (looking to quell her concern), "It's okay. I'm gonna do it both in the Atom and in a c-2 with Paul." :D
Ellen (now looking alarmed), "Well, then. I won't be there to watch you." :(
KNeal (feeling crestfallen and sporting a pouty bottom lip), "I was hoping you were gonna videotape it!"
