I just sold my old boat, a T1, and I am looking for a new boat that will make a good C1. I am thinking about the WaveSport Project 52, or the Jackson All Star. If anyone has paddled either of these, i would love the input.

I'm also questing to find a good freestyle c1 (given I don't get an Esquif Salsa or Pyranha Spanish fly)... I'm currently in an esquif detonator (hence the screen name). I have pretty good access to boats of all sorts, but many opinions help find the general average.

I haven't paddled them, but the Project series was designed with imput from Joe Stumpfel. who C1 rodeos professionally. the Fluids are good boats too, I paddle A Flirt Large, and it works fairly well. I don;t paddle it too often, most of the time I revert to paddling a slalom boat. but it is fun to play around in.

For holeplaying / surfing boats, if you can find a used one, or afford a new one, you can't beat a BigBoy or WheelBoy (Ok, unless you prefer glass...then get a Saint ).

Otherwise, it will depend a lot on what you want the boat to do-creek, cruise and surf, surf and cruise, or play in holes (I'm already assuming you're not looking into tripping, slalom, or downriver racing...).

There are numerous "older" Cboat designs (see the "See Boats" section) for cruising and surfing...for true hole playing by today's standards you'll have to go for a newer boat though, whether a true C1 or something you convert.

The last I talked with Joe about freestyle boats he was reccomending the Project 52. He converts most of his with a Dagger console. If you where to post an inquiry here:

You would most likely be read by several of the top C-1 freestyle boaters in the US. They may have some additional insight. It is a local Canoe/Kayak club to the Washington, DC area.
