Who likes peanut butter?

Post by KNeal »

I know this is off-topic, but it's important.

If you like Peter Pan, or Great Value, peanut butter, check the product code on the lid; it's above the expiration date. If the first four numbers are, 2111, return it where you bought it. The peanut butter is most likely contaminated with salmonella.

This is serious, as many of you watching, or listening, to the news today have learned.

While salmonella will make you sick, no deaths have been reported yet, from this peanut butter.

KNeal

P.S. My wife just made me go look at our jar and see what the product code is. She eats the stuff just about everyday. Guess what numbers I found on the lid? :o Not quite a quarter of it was already eaten. :(

Scott, I'm sure the health dept in South Carolina periodically cultures the workings of the peanut grinder in your local health food store for salmonella. Don't worry!

I wasn't bragging, I was kind of thinking about how that machine is sitting there with everybody and their brother touching it, sneeezing on it, etc... And you know what they fill it with?! Peanuts? You know where they grow them?! Dirt!

ONE CONFIRMED DEATH FROM LOT #2111 :D

I just looked & found 1/4 jar of Peter Pan w/ 2111 in the cabinet. I used some of this peanut butter on a mouse trap when we moved into the new house...THE MOUSE IS NOW DEAD :o

All of us human folk are still kickin' :D

We found a jar with about 1/4 left in our cabinet also. We must have dodged a bullet.

Maybe it can be put to use as an adhesive for those new materials you guys are talking about on the forum ( dang- two posts in two days- a record considering how many I have posted in 6 years!)

Mouse killin' Peanut Butter

Post by dixie_boater »

I found a jar of Peter Pan with the 2111 code in my pantry and promptly chunked it. Thank you Kneal for the heads up. :) We had eaten about a 1/3 of it. I made a PB&J from it just last Sunday for a hike in the mountains.

Guess my family dodged a bullet too :) Whew!

FWIW. For those who have eaten peanut butter from the suspected jars, rest assured that if you were gonna get sick, it would occur in just a few hours (you can almost put a timer on it at 4 hours :-? ). If you or a family member ate some of it and feel fine, then the jar you have is not tainted. :)

P.S. Mike, it sounds more like you overfed the little furry critter! :o

Thanks folks.... went to the cabin this weekend and found 2 of jars in "question"! One opened and a 1/4 gone and the other still sealed! Looks like we dodged the sickness too! Paul C.
