Actually said it would be for his wife, something about she might appreciate a different instructor?

Now that I can understand - I tried to teach my wife to paddle, to telemark and somewhat to drive. I was plenty glad of all those friends who helped out and prevented us from killing each other Several years later and we're still married....and both still boating solo and also tandem together.
