Wendy,
I'm not sure what you mean by "larger air bags", as the link picture looks to show the proper sized bags with the cage strings loosened.
My experience with air bags in the SFly is to get the 48" or 42" bags. I started by using the 60" bags from an open boat and found that the bags kept popping through the front and rear holes, interferring with my knees and sometimes trapping my feet.
Getting the smaller bags eliminated this potentially dangerous problem.
Have fun with it.

The goal is to reduce water coming in around air bags

I have the bags from Pyranha, and they may fill up the extra space to reduce water intake. I also carved a minicell deck today. Will try that out. I remember years ago it seems some folks plastic ripped where the thwart attaches. I am reluctant to loosen the "strings" as they provide some support they are soooooo tight. I agree on bag size. The stern one could not safely be any longer without risking foot entrapment.
Thanks.
