Incident on the Engstligen, Switzerland

I know that there are a number of German language folks on the forum. I just wanted to post a quick note as this may get back here with misunderstandings otherwise. There was an accident on the Entsligen in Switzerland, near to the Simme, last Saturday, leading to the death of a kayaker. I wanted to clarify that this was not associated with the Swiss Armada. Unfortunately, he was a member of my club (Kanu Klub Spiez), someone I knew and liked and tragically leaves behind a young family.

It is a scarily familiar story. I know the river and have run it several times, with several swims from my OC1. He flipped, missed his roll (easy to do in this shallow, rocky and very powerful river) and swam, then washed into a strainer. Despite extensive efforts from his friends to rescue him, he didn't make it home. I do not have any more details I can share.

My thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family and to my friends who were there and unable to rescue their friend.

I can't believe I'll never see your smile or taste your culinary wonders again.
