APE's C-boat Extravaganza....

It is official. The Appalachian Paddling Enthusiasts in conjunction with Rushing Waters Outfitters will be Hosting a Get together for single-stickers on August 4th. It will be held at the Nolichucky Gorge Campground.

Admission is the three dollar day use fee. Unless you decide to camp and i believe that is like eight dollars a person.

What do you get for coming? Free beer, I will provide one to two kegs for everyone to enjoy until it is gone. Rushing waters will provide some entertainment on the big screen.

What do I need? I need you to show up. This will happen even if it's just me, but I will probably die trying to drink all that beer.

Shane (Rushing Waters outfitters) and I have been trying in vain to get a hold of Eli, or Esquif to see about getting demos on hand. Can anyone help with this.

On a side note... Rushing waters has indicated to me that they want to look into being Esquif dealers. It would be nice to have one in the area.

How about it people, lets get some feed back.

This is going down on the 4th. so far the rain is helping and things are looking good. If we could get some form of a roll call it might help me predict the beer neccesary for this little get together.

Hope to see you all there,
-Bryan

I'll be there.

I'll be there, Kevin, but I won't drink any beer. I might bring a kayaker or two with me to share fuel expenses.

It's not quite clear to me what your schedule is. Is this a daytime activity? If so, I will miss most of it while I am on the river, because I'm not gonna drive to the Nolichucky and not boat!

If the festivities are for the evening, do you envision many, many boats running the gorge armada-style during the day, or are you leaving the paddling to the paddlers to arrange for ourselves, and merely organizing the evening activities?

I can carry up to six open boats plus a few deckers, and eight or ten paddlers and our gear, to the put-in; I just called LD to make an appointment with LeeAnn as a shuttle driver for Saturday morning.

BUT, my friend, you kinda failed to touch all the bases here. LD surprised me by saying that this is the first he has heard of the event. So I read him your announcement (the C-Boats.nets message to which I am replying) and as soon as i got to "Appalachian Paddling Enthusiasts" he interrupted me. Seems that, for a number of years, the APEs have scheduled their annual river cleanup for the same weekend as one of LD's big concertcerts, and had bands playing outside the Crockett house at the same time LD has had bands playing 200 yards away. Then he said that "the APEs" have reserved the bunkhouse for August 18th, when he has his annual VW Van convention in the campground. He also has the perception that the APEs (he sees the APEs as a monolith, not as a bunch of individuals) are always trying to avoid the $3.00 day-use fee he charges.

So, in the context of LD's perception that the APEs just won't work with him to avoid conflicts in scheduling, suddenly he has to learn from ME about your C-boat gathering (evidently Shane has not mentioned it to him). Very awkward. I suggest you call him immediately. I also suggest you be very clear about whether this is actually an APEs event or not, and about whether you are in a postition to speak for the APEs, because it would be a dam shame if a Greybear event were tarnished by LD's bad feeling towards the APEs.

Oops.

Sorry, Brian, I seem to have confused "bald1" with "Greybear". That's what you get for hanging out with Kevin! (^BD

I have talked to LD about this, apparently he has forgotten, but I will talk to him again immediately.
I will not reserve the bunkhouse as it is $240 dollars, this is just too much for an informal event.
I am the APE's Cruise director, I have the authority, and it is an official APE's event(that makes me sound important). The river clean up has already happened. Our club picnic is scheduled for the 18th, and we have reserved the bunkhouse for that, come join in the festivities.

The schedule is... everyone who wants to show up around 10:00 am. From there we decide who is running what, I personally will take my licks on the gorge. After the runs, we tap the keg hang out and relax. Camp if you want, I will be, and then run again on Sunday.

Shane, from Rushing Water Outfitters, is trying very hard to contact Eli and see about some demos, I think he is also checking into using the big screen for some video entertainment.

I know it seems low key and loosely planned, but that is just because it is. I personally think C-Boats flooding the Nolichucky with their style and grace would be awesome. I don't have any idea how many people will actually show. I have flyers out and about, but truthfully very little response.

On a side note about the APE's. Our club is in dire straights with membership right now. We have been busting our tails to get scheduled trips going, a new website up, and an increase in membership. This event is sot of a trial run for me. If it works I will try to make it bigger and better next year. If it doesn't work, and no one shows, then the whole campground gets free beer.

Glad that you will make it,
-Bryan

P.S. no problem about the identity confusion, just remember between Kevin and I, I am the good looking one with no hair.
