hi.
my club (mainly kayakers) are going to costa rica for some independant boating this coming december. they are all hiring boats out there. i am thinking of joining them. does anyone know of any outfitters that would hire an oc1? what boats would people recomend for there? would a zoom be to short and low volume for example?

Costa Rica Rios (see post above) is probably the best adress to get a boat from. They've got the widest selection and the newest boats.

About the size of boat: Costa Rican rivers are everything from low volume steep creeks (i.e. Chirripo) to big water multiday runs (two days Rio General). Mainly the rivers are class two to four with pool-drop character. That's what I remember from my trip many years ago.

Use the boat you comfortable with, the boat you paddle at home. If you like the Zoom and if you are comfortable with it it's probably a good choice, I'd say. It's on the list of boats at Costa Rica Rios.
