On Martin's (the Great Gonzo) suggestion I've taken the great leap of faith and ordered a lap belt for my Spanish Fly.
Any recommendations on placement of the belt, or an adjustment system on the strap would be appreciated.

Geoff, For the spanish fly I'd say the best thing might be to attach to your thwart behind the seat.. the further back the better, If you have ordered the VW beetle buckles you won't be disappointed.

fooling around i put the lap belt in my Nitro on the thwart and it worked well. Also you don't have to drill holes that way.

I disagree with msims here. You want the belt to pullyou back AND down into the saddle. this requires an attachment pont that is below your thwart. Otherwise you will still have the problem of lifting tour butt of the saddle. Don't be afraid of drilling holes in the hull! I did it too, and I don't regret it!

Be careful with those things... first and foremost "quick release only"... and make certain everyone you are paddling with knows you have one on... just in case.

Thanks for the "heads-up" Craig. I'm planning on using the belt mainly in park-n-play situations, where there are no pin potentials. I'll be putting a big grab loop on the buckle as well.

What about using the rescue harness from my old p-vest to make a lap belt?
