Riversport School of Paddling Boatercross on Friday @ ASCI

Post by natbla »

This week's Friday Night Fun Series Event #4 is the:

Riversport School of Paddling Boatercross

Registration from 5-6:30
Course opens for practice at 6:00
Racing at 7:00 until we are done (about 2 hours)

Format:
Boatercross is a head to head event run in heats of between 3-5 racers at a time. WE will run class specific 1st heats but will be combining classes as the numbers allow until there is only 1 final heat made up of mixed classes (we did this last time too). The top 2 boats in a heat advance.

Boats that do not advance out of the first round will be relegated to the Consolation Bracket. The top two boats from the Consolation bracket will be placed back into the Second round.

Classes:
The classes this week are the usual classes (gender, skill level, boat type) with a mixed Ducky class. In light of the higher number of slalom and Upper Yough racers likely to be interested, additional slalom and long boat classes are offered as well as the usual under 8.5 foot boat classes.

The ducky class runs separate from the rest of the boatercross. It will be determined based on registration numbers, if this will be necessary to do the same with slalom boats as they have a huge speed advantage over the plastic classes.

A list of all boats less than 8.5 feet in length produced since roughly since 2001 is here:

If I head up to the Yough on Friday, I will plan on going to ASCI and possibly to the boatercross in my Maverick. :D

Anyone else going to this event this Friday?

It'sa beautiful day here with highs in the 70's. A chance of some showers this evening, but we are prepared with lighting so if we need to we can go past dark tonight.

So I hope to see a good number of you up there.

Nathan,

This so cool! I thank you for organizing these events. For anyone in the area interrested in a great time on Friday Night, I wholeheartedly endorse the Friday Night Fun Series. It is a great time for all. The ASCI facility is definitely Dog Friendly and Beer Friendly. Just keep'em leashed and discrete and clean up your mess.

Some of my family will be participating. I think you can expect a pretty big crowd. I have to work this weekend

Thanks again,

Tom

Thanks for the compliment

Well the final boatercross is in the books. Competitor attendance was down from the last one. But it was good racing and the 75+ spectators where into it. WE set the course to a solid class IV level based on the people who were attending, and we cranked the water up to the same volume it will be at for Nationals next week. Needless to say it was a good time for everyone. I'll post results and a write up of the evening later this weekend.
