filled it with Gorilla glue and covered it with kevlar, for structural strength. Tomorrow will replace the saddle and coat the bottom with the ABS which is now the consistancy of paint.

I did not try Jim M's method of covering the glue with raft material but I have some Bostik glue that I want to try with this application.

I think I am taking this boat to the GC even though it weighs more with every repair. It is my "black feather" boat and I know I'll make my rolls in it.

I know that this is just canoe stream of consciousness talk but you are the only people in the universe who get it that a new glue is interesting. (that makes you canoe geeks btw.)

I thought Buttercup was the new composite Rival? You wouldn't ABS paste on such a boat?

Not to hijack the thread, but Kaz said I should try a Defiant instead of ordering a Hooter. He thinks I am topheavy. The Rival is too short for someone my height.

No ABS paste on the KAZ boat. But I do gotta fix two cracks on it. I paddled it on the Fractions and really hit very few rocks but did take two good bumps.

As to Buttercup, we put a kevlar patch on the inside, running up the sides. We also put the ABS patch on the bottom. It seems to have taken pretty well but I am not sure yet. I am interested to see whether it does stay or peels off.

My boats are allowed to gain up to 3 pounds in repair materials. Then it's off to the glue factory.

You can afford a new boat; yer doing all these repairs cuz yer just such a... geek.

You know, even those with limited woodworking skills such as myself, can put wood gunwales on a boat - even from scratch. Maybe you could try that with Buttercup.

And if you replace the gunwhales with wood, you will compensate for some of the weight of all that fiberglass, epoxy, and ABS you are plastering on.
