Konbanwa!

Post by kaz »

Greetings from Japan.
Paul Cole and I are paddling rivers in Japan right now. Miwa and Yoichi Muraoka, 2 very good paddlers, are putting us up in their home for 9 days. Just returned from a slalom race on the Tamagawa in the Mitake valley region west of Tokyo. There are many excellent c-boat paddlers in Japan. Before that we paddled the Arakawa near Nagatoro and also did a long run on the Tamagawa. Tomorrow it`s back to the Tama River for a longer section. Then we`re off to the Nagano region to visit Yoshi at Sunday Planning, an outdoor center on Lake Nojiri. Yoshi loves mushrooms. We`ll paddle the Saigawa, do some mushroom picking, and I`m sure visit some hot springs high in the mountains. Honk to wish us luck.

Hey John,
Where will you be? I hear that the best whitewater is on Shikoku. We`re on Honshu and the rivers are on the low side but definitely runnable. I`ll try to post some pictures when I get home.

Thank you Motoari-san. We just returned to Hidaka City after spending a couple days in the Nagano area. Extremely mountainous region of Japan as opposed to just plain old mountainous. Visited several hot springs. There are approx 4,000 hot springs here, we only went to 5 of them. Paddled the Shinano River yesterday. Very steep narrow canyon. Spectacular scenery.

Mr. Takeda-san took many pictures on Sunday.

But unfortunately, I wrote business report at my office
on that sunny Sunday, and so, there are no pictures about me
