yup... that's how a local surfs Garb (also see if can you spot exactly what Mark did at 2:44)... and Eli... he wouldn't even let me use my own boat... he said I had to use the one with the big hole in the top of it.

Got it stopped right at 2:44 and all I see is that he's got a hard forward lean and the boat is slightly tilted on its horizontal axis to the left. His blade is pointed upto the right and t-grip is hidden by water.

Some sort of trick? I dunno!

He was coming off the pile and used his cupped hand to get him going backwards again... in other words he hand paddled one big stroke.
