Suggestions/advice needed for Caption outfitting...

Howdy Folks,

So I bought a new Caption. Turns out Mad River is making them now...it seems a little wider than the Dagger version but looks good nonetheless.

I'm wondering two things:

1. What size air bags do people recommend?

2. Does anyone have suggestions or advice for saddle placement? (Obviously we'll do a float test for trim, but I guess I'm wondering if anyone knows any "generic" positions that will accommodate a variety of paddler sizes without compromising performance too much...)

Many thanks in advance!

Kalin

P.S.>My new Wave Sport Fuse 64 C1 is fantastic. I'll try to post a more thorough review in a couple weeks when I've had a chance to test it more.... :D

Hi Kalin,

In our Vertige X I outfitted for maximum flexibility - removable saddles. I can put fat-boy-me stern or bow and adjust the trim, and I can take a saddle out and paddle it from a true solo position.

Setting up the 3 positions took a bit of figurin', the biggest trick was carving out some holes for the thigh-strap anchors (2" d-ring) that needed to be underneath the saddle of another position.

My end bags are from my solo, so 60", and for soloing I've got a big 72" bag, which I'm currently using & liking in my Outrage.

For the saddles etc., I'm using NorthWater's anchor strips, and I have no problem with them being wiggly or coming loose.

I hate 3-position outfitting that leaves you full-time with a super-long saddle or an extra bulkhead, I only wanted in it what I needed, and I wanted flexibility for tandem positions, solo ww and solo river tripping.

Good luck finding time to do the outfitting!

Have fun, Pat.
