I just purchased a great condition Caption that needs a little outfitting. It has the 3 person pedestal. It's missing 2 thigh straps and needs floatation bags. I checked with my local shop and sadly saw how expensive bags are!

I was planning on getting 2 60" bags? anybody where to find the best deal on these? I also need to know where to get some thigh straps as my shop didn't have any? Any helpful hints on the 3 pedestal Caption and outfitting much appreciated.

They used to have the least expensive bags, of good quality.
around $60.00; if I remember correctly.

a fairly inexpensive option for thigh straps is to order 2" tubular webbing from strapworks (see paddling links at top of page) along with some fastec buckles and tri-glides. when i did continuous triple thigh straps and hardware in my ocoee, it was about $28 including shipping. i could have been more conservative on my measuring too. the 2" webbing is very comfortable, even on bare skin, so no padding is needed. you would still need to get anchor points for the hull. hope this helps...

NRS airbags have a lifetime warranty. they cannot delaminate, and are advertised as bombproof, and for the last year mine have held up to the hype.

they are expensive but so far, they're the best bags I've ever owned.

How big your bags might need to be depends on your paddling activity. Now in my old age (DOH-tage ), I have been getting away for ten years with only 30" bags in my Mad River Synergy. But if you're going to do a lot of heavy water, and/or if you intend to roll your Caption, 60" bags may be the way to go.

Also, are you going to paddle your Caption solo only? With 60" bags, so much of the inside of the boat will be taken up by the bags that any tandem setup may be problematical.
