Common topic here - do a search on royalex, vinyl, paint, krylon fusion, etc.

Question is, why spend all that money and effort? The existing vinyl skin protects the underlying ABS quite well from UV. If the Vinyl skin is chalky from age and sun, try some vinyl cleaners. You can use mild abrasion, but you don't want to remove much vinyl.
If the underlying ABS is exposed because the vinyl is scuffed off in places, just use Krylon Fusion or a similar product to cover the ABS.
Lots of us ww paddlers like the appearance of a new boat, but we also take a perverse pride in a properly scuffed and dented boat. I hope you will paddle more, and spend as little time as possible on "cleaning the outside of the cup."

It's been done with epoxy and others. However, it adds a lot of weight and never looks quite right.

Used to use Krylon Fusion, before I got smart like the posters above, developed that 'perverse pride"
and just started patching what was necessary with the abs/acetone mix. I have noticed the rocks on my weekly run wearing "Evergreen" and "Crimson red" seems to have diminished since I gave up trying to keep the canoes pretty.

I only paint occasionally and that is to restore any UV protection it might offer. That is unless I'm selling the boat - then it gets a good coat!

I had red Ocoee once. Got it as wedding or birthday present, dont remember, maybe both. Anyhow, I paddled it for about a year and it only cost me $5.00. I spent the five bucks on 2 rolls of red duct tape, Didnt care much for painting it. I'd just end up scratching it all off next time I paddled.
