where can I get parts to fix up an old Whitesell Descender. Need a hatch for Perception saddle and end plates (if that is what you call them).

Where are you located? In VA we have a great outfitter that can usually get anything. Appomattox River outfitters in Farmville, VA, but I suppose if you were in VA you would already know about them :-? . They do have a website and ship though.

The hatches I think are "deckplates" if you go to a marine supply store (i.e. West Marine) - you may have to buy an entire assembly. [I used to have a hatch lying around, but since we moved I haven't seen it and I'd hate to promise it...]

Deckplates will be tougher - consider making some? We recently inherited a Whitesell Whirlwind and the deckplates were 60% duct tape. I think I can make some from sheet polyethylene, the trick being how to make it fit the ends. I may just make "tabs" every couply of inches and bend then over (heat).

I am in VA and know abt. ARC. Have bought boats there. Just didn't realize that they were a source for parts.

AFAIK they can get just about anything that you need. I know folks that have bought the standards like gunnels and caps.

I found the 6" economy deck plates on West Marine. I think that is the size I need. Thanks for the tip!

Just found that hatch and compared it to a Perception saddle "in stock" (dang we have so much cr@p here... :-) - it's yours for the postage or, preferably, a beer at a future time. PM or e-mail me if interested.
