fly turn around

I got a well used super/Spanish fly at GAF and I notice latter that the hull has a bumped out place under the front of the bulkhead saddle. After some roll practice the saddle shifted as it was not glued in very well also the knee pads were loose ,so I took out the saddle and knee pads. Now I'm wondering if I should put them back facing the other way and if there would be a performce difference. Also if it would be worthwhile as far as wear.

The boat is a savage V I think a 1999 model per serial#

So you got that one? A red one?

I'd bet a cold beverage that it is symmetrical and you could swap directions. You can start making scratches that go the other way!

That's right its the red one :D And as far as I can tell the boat is symmetrical .I just don't know how much difference it would make to turn the boat?

How much difference *could* it make? What you got to lose in trying, some *adhesive*? :D

The Spanish Fly is asymetrical, according to the Esquif website:

Frankie was a big fan of symmetrical boats, I think the Edge may well have been his only assymetrical boat though I'm not sure. I do know that the Skeeter, Superfly, Spanish Fly and Prelude were all originally symmetrical. If the Spanish Fly isn't now it was done after Frankie was involved.

If it is a Savage boat, it is the SuperFly, and it is symmetrical.

I believe that is a mistake on Esquif's website.

check to see which end is higher, for better initiation on bow moves the lowest end is preferred (according to Eli)... for me it was higher end in the bow, for a little extra dryness... the difference between end height(s) was due to factors in the manufacturing process, and not a actual design element; this was true for Pyranha Fly's and therefore may not be true with Esquif Fly's... maybe someone with a new one will check (???)

it really doesn't matter, as the bottom still seems to retain asymmetrical-ness

The oil-canning will not hurt and may help

My Superfly has a pronounced concave area in front of the bulkhead. It makes for a super flat planing surface. If that is the way yours is I would not bother to switch it around. If it is a bump sticking out you should be able to heat it up a bit and push it in to get that concave, oil-can effect. Seriously, I really like mine that way.

Congratuations on your purchase. Very fun boat.
