ALF is derived from the Latin word for sliding down a partially damp rock
............um, well...O.K. it stands for "Aint Louie Fest". Definitely not organized by our very own C-boating legend, Michael "Louie" Lewis, and held in the spring somewhere in E. Tennesee between the Cumberland Plateau and the Smoky Mountains National Park.
There's a sticky thread at the top that will contain more info.

ALF is about 10 days long in March. The best time to see everyone is during the middle 3 or 4 days. About 100 canoeists converge on East TN. There will be 3 or 4 trips per day based on ability and water.
It is not organized.
Nobody is in charge
It is a lot of fun.
You will get to meet a ton of people and paddle some really fun rivers.
Come check it out for sure!

Come whenever you can. It's a blast. Don't expect to be catered to though. You'll meet great paddlers from all over, and maybe learn a thing or two. I'll never forget my first ALF trip (all good memories) even though I did get spanked a couple times.
if it was me

If you pick a weekend you will miss 50 of the 100 people there. If you paddle in the middle of the week you will see everyone.
I live here so I will paddle both weekends and then paddle on the best 1 or 2 days during the week based on rain and water levels.

I should have say that you don't need to worry a boat Jim Coffy with Esprie has a butt load down here and can fix you up. From a trip to where they do everythin but wipe you butt to just rentin you a boat. I have the low down on good people to do your shuttles and everyone is super friendly and helpful and did I mention it was in the low 90's today down here.
