I am attempting to register my HD-1, OC1 in Illinois (don't get me started!). I searched all over the boat for a serial number and have not found it.
Questions: Did Perception even put serial numbers on their canoes back in the 70s? If they did, do you know where to find it?
Incidentally, I recently pulled the gunnels in two inches on this boat. This is one SWEET canoe.

Unfortunately, the serial # is probably under the gunnel at one end, written in marker as it is on my HD.
IMOP, youve got one the best boats to learn on. She can be a stern teacher, but if you master an HD, you will be able to paddle anything out there.
Thanks LBtin

I sent in for the registration without the serial number. I didn't realize that was an option earlier. The world's got too many dam numbers anyway. I should have probably just submitted "HD-1" since it would have probably been the only one in IL.
I did my early learning in a Dagger Rival. The HD-1 is my ticket to creek bumming (not the steep stuff) and light to moderate WW.

Serial number are mandated by the cost guard and include such things as a code for the manufacture and the year. The last two numbers are the year.
find another boat ( any type ) see how many digits are in that one and then get you a magic marker make you up a number with the right number of digits and right it on your boat send in you paper work if they send it back you tell them that is the only number on your boat and if they don't like it they can come and find another one on it. You will never hear another word from thm they only want the money.
