Looks Like an HD1

Post by Not Elvis »

I know I see most OC1s and think HD1, even when the sticker on the boat says "H2 Pro" or "Spanish Fly," but the pictures REALLY do look like an HD1.

Made by Perception 1978(9)-1985, it was a round bottom hull that nobody, except me and three other guys who were dropped on their heads as children, seemed to like.

Fast, but turned on a dime if you laid it on its gunnel; played pretty good for its length--a real aggressive OC1 for its time. May very well have been the first ABS solo OC1 made.

I believe, to the best of my knowledge, that all facts stated are true, but cannot be held liable in a court of law, or Louie-sponsored "Oh Yeah fest" for any information found to be incorrect by searching wikipedia.

400 bucks seems high for it, since you could buy one new in 1980 for 400 buck outfitted and ready to go. But if it is in exceptional shape, then the hull is super hard and bombproof, thus making it worth the money.

I would definiely say HD1, by looks of outfitting and aluminum gunnels. Have seen black also, if its been out of sun as described that abs should be nearly bombproof. I beat the shizzle out of my HD for years, but it finally gave in due to poor storage in direct sun. Get em to go $275 and strap it on.

Thanks guys. I've been enjoying my Mohawk Rogue I bought, the 22 year old royalex seems very sturdy, I've had it down river a dozen times now. It would be nice to get a boat that was a tad more lively.

Any idea about the amount of Rocker?

Rocker

Post by Not Elvis »

Rocker is 4" per Perception.

Not as radical a rocker as you would see in much later designs, like Ocoee or Caption, but reasonably respectable.

If you find the hull to be "too lively," please PM me and I'll buy it from you. I need another one when mine wears out.

Thanks.

There's more out there

Not my boat, and the seller is asking waaay too much for it ($500!), but there's one on the Nashville, TN craigslist - even has the oh so wonderful Perception saddle...
So, you go rafting with that thing? Uh...yeah.
