Or, I used microfibers. Anything handy that will thicken the G-flex so it does not tend to drop out or run out from under the patch. You might contrive a foam-and-weight system to apply pressure to the wings of the patch while they set.
G-flex sets slow. Give it a coupla hours before you remove any weights. It will be usable hard in a day, but will keep hardening for two weeks.
Note that G-flex is affordable in the small 4 oz bottles. Maximum Whitewater Performance/ johnrsweet.com has them. I got the big 16 oz size, but they're about $50.

Another point. When using G-flex or other alternatives to Vynabond, sand the bottom of that vinyl/fabric d-ring patch until you start to see fibers. Clean it with rubbing alcohol. This is so the G-flex can take a good hold on the patch.
Vynabond's one advantage is that it cuts chemically into the d-ring patch surface. G-flex does not, but if the patch surface is clean and roughened, G-flex hold is excellent. Cleaning and sanding the boat surface is needed also.
