Dagger Caper pricing

Post by BillP »

A friend asked for advice on pricing a Dagger Caper. It is in excellent condition, stored indoors, with wood gunnels, and has only been paddled on class I,II and lakes. It comes with Perception airbags and a Perception Saddle.

Any ideas on what he should be asking?

Thanks!

If it was a Caption he could get at least 700. The Caper (worse yet, the older designed Caper) is not very desirable, so 500 to 600 would be my guess... who knows, he might get lucky and get 700. I owned and sold a Caper about 10 years ago with a triple saddle and sold it for 500. The boat's popularity has declined since then.

I sold a triple-position Caper in very good condition last year. $400.

In my experience (and I have *a few* boats that I've picked up all over the country (literally)), it is very regional. A boat that may go for $600 up here may go for $400 in DC.

The internet has helped even things out a bit, but it still comes down to demand for that type of boat in your area.

Because the Royalex is old and likely getting brittle, I think $500 is a good asking price. But no reason to go much below that.

Thanks to everyone for the good advice. I agree that if it was a Caption instead of a Caper, he could get a good bit more. I haven't seen the boat myself, but stored indoors and being somewhat older, I imagine the ABS will be in as good or better shape than a lot of new boats today.

I'll tell him that he might expect to be able to get ~$500 give or take $100.
