Boat Shipping

Anyone have any experience shipping boats from the US up to Canada, or just shipping boats in general? All of the quotes that I've gotten from the traditional companies are pretty ridiculous. What's the best (read cheapest) way to go? Any help would be appreciated, it's tough finding boats up here...

you could have one of the canadians that come down to tenn/nc. bring it back to Ontario in the Spring (March). I know a guy who had to drive up to canada to pick up a boat due to the shipping problem, so I don't know of a better way to transfer boats. I'm actually surprised you found someone who would ship a boat to you.

Cheap shipping stops at the border. Most freight companies don't want to deal with customs, so they charge an extra arm or leg to do it.

Contact the seller and see if they know anyone going up to Banff/ Jasper for vacation, and offer to pay their gas (couple hundred $$). You'll save money and get the boat in good condition.

Montana/ Idaho are a good days drive from you. Might check those shops or find someone heading that direction to save even more (but you'll have two days of driving).

Hi, Bob!! Nice to see you're posting here too!!!

In my search this summer for a new OC1 I got dealer quotes from $250 - 300 for "specialty boat shippers" from factory to Louisiana; dealers say general freight shippers are quicker but higher. By the way, my new Merrimack Baboosic goes into production this week, hope to have it by Labor Day!!

You might try getting bids on UShip ... but crossing the border definitely makes things a little more expensive.

Forget about crossborder shipping using a shipping company. I have looked into it several times. Most shipping companies will simply not do it if it's a private shipment.
The ones that might will quote you rates that will simply not make the deal worthwhile.
Your options are to arrange for a private transport ot to get it shipped to someone who lives just suth of the border and then pick it up there yourself or have a friend pichk it up there.

TGG!

hmm, slightly depressing news, but thanks for all the input. Looks like I'll have to keep up the canadian boat search, unless anyone is heading north from colorado...
