Lower Yough this weekend
Planning on getting there early on Sunday for a run. Our group has to be off the river by 3:00. Final launch time will be determined by tomorrow and I will post here. Group dynamics are shaping up to be 1 Open Boat, 3 C-1's, 1 buttboater.

Fun spots!
Joe, I've seen video's of your fun spots... and that's what concerns me.
I was hoping for the easy lines on Saturday and then see the fun spots on Sunday?
Keep me in the loop and I'll start trying to open things up on my end.
Mike

Make sure to post your launch times - I might be able to make it out that way this weekend. Probably won't make it before dark on Fri, but could paddle Sat and Sun.
Smerda - I think people used to hang slalom gates in Dartmouth on the loop. Don't know if the park still allows that or not. I don't know squat about racing, but that rapid definitely has lots of options for linking micro-eddy moves, etc. Couple years ago, DR nats happened on the loop. Zero publicity, though. The only way I knew it was happening was by all the Penobscots with pool noodles glued to the gunwales.

With respect to campgrounds, the state park is not the place for boaters--expensive; park rangers come around at 9:00 PM and tell you it is time to be quiet; and no adult beverages.
Other options are: Paddler's Lane [formerly known as RiverSport] in Confluence. $6 per person per night. You can come in any time. Disadvantages: trains; Sisters Cafe for breakfast if you're watching your weight; and nothing ever dries overnight.
Tall Oaks Campground [Off US 40 in Farmington, PA]: $10 per night per person. Advantages: Les will deliver firewood to your site if you buy enough; no trains; things dry overnight. Disadvantges: No Sister's Cafe for breakfast.
I'm usually there at least 2 weekends a month--but not this weekend.
The Keelhaulers from Cleveland are running their "Intro to the Lower Yough" trip that weekend. They do have some C-boaters, but I'm about the only OC-1.
It is $3 to get on and $4 to get off. Permits cost $3 and shuttle wrist bands cost $4. They are good for only one day. If you think you may take off at the Loop ask for one of the "starry bands" otherwise your $4 is gone.

I think the LY would make a great OCNationals River... for many reasons.

There is also Benners (close and a nice place run by good folks - local paddling club uses them for their big event) and Scarlet Knob (prepare for REALLY wierd vibs)!
The Rangers are proactive at the SP (nice guys on a whole but they do their job). Besides there are some place to hang at night in town (aka: falls pub, etc.).
Just some thoughts.
Big Al and I have 11 to noon launches but I might be doing an early launch and maybe a late one. Most likely the loop on both accounts do to family constraints on my time!
