Hey guys,

I've just joined the board officially after having lurked for a while, so hello! I'm just putting together my first C boat and am curious about a good starting point for my saddle height. I was given the suggestion by a good friend to buy a 24"x4" block of foam to build my saddle out of, but I'm curious if there are any recomendations on height of the backrest and seat portion.

If anybody has any great recommendations other than this, let me know. I'd be happy to hear them. I'm going to be buying a used paddle, and some straps for my knees/thighs shortly and am feeling a bit in over my head. Anything to buy? Anything to stay away from?

I'm putting together a decked playboat in a Kevlar Riot Glide prototype for class 2/3 whitewater. Have tons of experience in K1, but a total newbie in C boating. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the realm of C-Boats Seth!
For the seat you want to go as low as you can comfortably go for best stability. Typically 6-6 1/2" good starting point. Some go as high as 8" or so, but stability is affected.
For the seat back...the higher the better...but 8" would be a good starting point I think.
Where are you located. There might be a C-boater close to help?

Thanks for both replies! I'm located in Kalispell, Montana. Maybe I'll start at the 6.5-7" and cut it down as need be. Do most people simply take the boat out on the water to find a good trim point? Kneeling upright, should the boat be completely trim? Thanks!
