Looking for a REALLY large helmet

Post by dmecsas »

I've been squeezing my oversized noggin into an XL Protec with the pads shaved down for years. I've also been looking for a replacement for years, but nothing--and I mean nothing--that I try on in paddleshops fits comfortably. My hat size is 7-7/8, with a circumference in the 24.25-.5 range.

Unless I can find something better, I'm probably going to go with one of the Head Trips custom-made lids. But before I plunk down the dough, I thought I'd see if there are any other fatheads out there in CBoats-land who could give me some good advice and/or point me to cheaper alternatives.

Thanks,

Big Head

Ive had the same problem. The Sweet Strutter L/XL works but very $$$. The Shred Ready T-Dub works with no pads and a cut on the sides. But the Predator Lee 8 is so comfy I had to add foam. Really worth checking out. I have a 7 5/8 hat size if that helps.

Cheers

I heard a while back that NRS had a large Bell returned from a dealer who closed up shop. I think it's pretty big. I love my Bell & would pay twice the original asking price for another new one in small/medium. Must've been lack of marketing that resulted in low sales that caused Bell to stop making them.

Try the shred ready full metal jacket. That thing is made for big noggins. Good luck!

IIRC my head is 7-3/4. I'm pretty happy with my Cascade though the face cage makes for a tight fit over the ears.

This thread on NPMB is making me wonder if it was the helmet (a Cascade) or the fit?

At any rate you are welcome to try on my Cascade next time we paddle.

Big Helmet

I just bought a Greatful Heads Hard Hit. It is the biggest I have tried.
I went raftin' once. I think it was in Ohio.

PS Composites used to make helmets for the full headed man. Maybe they still do.

Kaz is correct - PS will lay up a size to fit. Paul has a large number of styles and sizes to chose from. If not in stock (I know the stock was running low and a new run was being planned for when I last talked to Paul). Call them up / email them and talk to them.

They will also be at G-Fest - another great place to check out gear and size them up!
