I just got a caption and I need to put in the outfitting. Does anyone
know what dagger did when they factory outfitted the boat. Or does
anyone have any suggestions on where the best placement would be.

Pictures and measurements would be great.

Thanks,
John

John, often the factory suggestions aren't that good. I think you will have to put the pedestal in the boat, the boat in the water, and you on the pedestal, and have someone photograph or eyeball the boat.

If you have a thwart at the geometrical center point of the boat, your hip joint might be 9 inches back of the center thwart. For tandem use, I can't help you, because when I outfitted my Synergy ten years ago, I used a Mohawk triple saddle, and set the center seat where I thought it should be. Later it developed that the rear seat had to be farther back, and to achieve that, I actually spliced some minicell to the back of the triple saddle, rather than move the whole thing.

Incidentally, Mad River had provided seat placement recommendations, but they were all wrong. That's why you have to do cut-and-try.

Lagow8, I also paddle a Caption and a friend recomended I get in the boat with air bags installed, water bottle in place throw rope and spare paddle all where you intend for them to be as a habit on every trip sounds picky but it all makes sense if you want the boat to be balanced. Take the boat to a lake in calm water no wind. sit in the boat and have someone measure from bow and stern to the water. Move the saddle back or forward until you get the same distance to the water. Mark that spot for saddle placement but............ some people slide the saddle back about one half inch so that it is bow light just slightly but....... this must fit your paddeling style also. I taped mine in with duct tape and experimented on the river. You will probably get lots of suggestions on this site, do what works for you before you glue it in. Hope this helps. D-Caption

This boat will be a tandem. I have two saddles and do not have the money for a triple. Just looking for some advice on saddle placements for bow and stern paddlers.

Hmmm, if you could find some side views of couples in Captions, you could do some measuring and come up with an approximate trial position.

I have a dagger caption set up tandem. I will try to photograph it with a tape measure before I load it up for this weekend's outing.

Here are the measurements taken from my boat. The measurements were taken perpendicular off a string stretched tight from bow to stern. From the bow to the stern along this string it measures 14 ft 2 in. Remaining measurements from the bow:

to center line of first thwart: 3 ft 11.5 in
to front of first saddle: 5 ft 3 in
to center line of second thwart: 6 ft 7 in
to rear of first saddle: 6 ft 8 in
to front of second saddle: 8 ft 2 in
to center line of third thwart: 9 ft 5.5 in
to rear of second saddle: 9 ft 6 in
to center line of 4th thwart: 10 ft 3.5 in

Post or PM me an email address and I will send pictures.

Hope this helps.
