Did anyone run any of this over the past couple weeks? Planning on going up there Monday and doing Upper or part of Cascades down to the wesser. Wondering if someone can talk levels. The guage shows ~1k cfs. How much of that is natural flow? If we lose the extra flow over the next few days what will the run be like? At 1k cfs is the normal nanty section worth doing or is it washed out? Any hot tips on how to get there now that the main route is blocked? Thanks!

Here is an email link and details...Sounds like the cascades would be BEEFY...
Here is today's update from Duke
Please be advised that with the
Nantahala Lake Level currently at 88.92 (local datum) and a 2 foot gate opening
the discharge at the dam is approximately 720 cfs. The website message will be
updated to reflect this in a few minutes.
Duke Energy will
open the spillway gate at the Nantahala Dam at 4:30 PM Thursday, November 12,
2009. For the fishing and boating communities please be aware that this will
produce with the continued natural inflow very high stream flows in the
Nantahala River bypass. The concrete river ford on the Nantahala Dam Road has
been closed. Note that Duke Energy can change operations to respond to changing
circumstances without any prior notice. We encourage those along and in streams
and other low-lying areas to pay special attention to changing weather
conditions and take any necessary precautions.
The website will
be updated shortly.

We ran the Upper Nanty down to the commercial put-in last weekend too. It was a lot of fun! Much better than the 370-470cfs when we had natural flow back in Sept.

Thanks for the input! Sounds like a good time. Looks like its about double the flow right now (last weekend was before Ida)--@ over 1k. A friend of mine looked at it today and said there were no eddies and it was big. I guess we'll see how much the NF drops between now and then...
Thanks again!!!

I can say last weekend at around 1000cfs that it was quite big on the Upper Nantahala. See attached pics.
