Wavesport Mutant Converison?

Post by mbrooks »

I'm new to boating, and happen to be a very small female, 5'2" and 110 lbs, and am looking into making a conversion. I normally paddle my boyfriends Nitro, but want a C-1 for myself. I found a Mutant for a good price and am curious if anyone has converted a Mutant before.

Any advice would be appreciated!

that would be a horrible choice for a boat sorry

the plastic is bad...I have two I just welded

it would be a very very tippy boat.

Look for a Pyranha Karnali or a Dagger Nomad

The Mutant was just that...they named it right

i'm of the opinion that any kayak makes a decent c1 if it is cheap enough. you'll probably mess up your outfitting the first half dozen times you try so it's good to get practice. and paddling a horrible boat makes you appreciate it more when you get a good one. most people would disagree with at least one if not all of my points though.

I tend to agree that for up and coming c-boaters, get your hands on the cheapest old kayak you can find for a conversion. Your first conversion probably won't be ideal and you will learn a lot in the process. The mutant is fairly narrow at 25" and is an interesting boat, with seemingly no stern (i used to k1 paddle one). It will be very tippy, but it will turn very easily.

I have a converted Dagger Gradient at 24.5" wide. It has its advantages, like being unreasonably easy and quick to roll.

But...if you can find a small dagger nomad or a small pyranha burn, you'll have a boat you'll be a lot happier with for a lot longer.

IF your small paddling a nitro , anything you convert is gonna fell small and twitchy. The nitro is alot of boat to throw around for a small person. I'm a big guy looking to convert a Wavesport Diesel because it looks like it has slightly similiar hull (on a lot smaller scale).
