foam blocks, SEDA life jackets, no helments, sugar cookie we look like some of the present day Penn boaters, but then that was 30 years ago.

So the Karnali handles like a kick in the stones?
Louie w/ several subtle, crucial differences. You guys r bustin the traditional trim, all bow seat sittin. You went for another boat to enhance performance, We just changed position in the boat. Anything but barge-like in our configuration. Many gave up, we continue to develop.

LB - what are you doing differently? More weight in the rear so it pivots more?

you big DA we didn't bow set, faceing backward, we put a saddle in it a little bit stern of midships, heck even in the late seventies, early eighty we knew that much.

hmmmmmm ah yes, the saddle...well this DA knows enough that limiting yer movement aint watcha want to be doin in the longboat. It's why you guys gave up, its ok, dont beat yerself up about it...ya'll got boats that better match yer plateau.

Is it wrong to tell Louie that pic was taken the same year I came into existence?

To answer your question jscott. We sit in the stern seat just as a normal stern paddler would do tandem. The front 1/2 of the boat is out of the water making the boat effectivly only about 8 or nine feet long. The beauty of it is the boat lines and edges are very linear and fast. Lean a little forward and towards one side and the boat is a rocketship. Lean back and it becomes very short and pivots on the narrow stern like a top. Sit neutral and let the bow ride up over stuff and it's dry. Endless possibilities. No saddle cause you need to be able to move around alot, kneeling forward for more leveling(faster), sitting up on seat and way way off the back to get the boat really short(spins). Lots of fun to experiment with, I would encourage you to try. It also makes easier water much more fun.

Well, I know there are many thousands more kayakers than open boaters, but of all the open boaters I have ever seen or paddled with, I have to say that Lengthy and Logboatin'; well you two are the only ones that paddle like this????????????????????? Makes me sorta wonder. What about the rest of you?

nawh.... sounds like -some kind of make-be-leave fantasy world, ... most likely due to that short season, they have up there. Too much time to think about boating. U-can-see where this leads to all sort of theoretical and philosophical thought, to where there's not as much wear on the bottom. We found out a long time ago, that you weren't getting much past the U.Yough stage like that... the sterns wouldn't take the hits, from dropping off the verticals... and the hulls wouldn't really plane out (as needed) on boofs, with such a weight distribution.
It was a nice try though... I really thought Old-Louie, had bitten off more than he could chew this time.... maybe that's DA, as in Dreams Alot.
Of course - we all use what works best for
us, but an actual live demonstration... now that might be enlightening. I don't see how you keep from getting thrown forward... with no outfitting, the old-timers I've seen - use to brace off a thwart?
