The back of a 17" long pedestal saddle is set back 57" from the stern in my Bell Ocoee. They also located the saddle inside as Smerda has suggested.

Chea,
First let me say that you and Smerf are very funny people.
Second, and I know this will also get some really good answers, where would the back of the saddle(where it hits my back) be?
thanks,
JKaz

The "back rest" part of the pedestal saddle is 2 3/4" thick so my back is 59 3/4" from the stern of the boat when I'm kneling in it. Trim is neutral.

Kaz,
Even though I own one of your boats (and want several more) I am very partial to the Ocoee. I would be interested in your opinion of the boat. Have you paddled one much in the past and is the one in question, yours or are you just outfitting it for someone else?

My one Ocoee is factory oufitted, with the front of the back part of the saddle (the part that swoops up from tailbone to beltline) 57" from the stern. My other one is set at 58" for a slightly more neutral trim.

How's the skiing in NH? Montana is off to a sad start...

an line drawn from your shoulder through you hip should be three inches back from the center of the Ocoee. This has always made me slightly stern heavy. From that position leaning back lift the front for boofs and leanin forward put the bow down enought to where it bits in for ferrys, I am 5'8" talls and weight 165.

The Ocoee is 11'2" or 134" long. Half of that is 67". The distance from the part of my saddle that my back touches to a line drawn from my shoulder through my hip is 4.5" add 3" (Louie's set back from the center and deduct 7.5" from 67" and you get 59.5". My oufitting is 1/4" off. Could this be the reason why I suck? Or am I just getting old and slow?

Ocoee saddle placement?

First, I've always found it easier to measure from the center line, rather from either end.

Rough guideline for neutral float position is to place your bellybutton directly over the center line, while leaning slightly forward. (Those with "outies", or pendulous bellies, adjust accordingly.)

If you want it to ride a little bow-high, just move the saddle back an inch or two.

For me, that places the back-rest (vertical) part of the saddle cut-out 8 - 9" back of the center line, depending on where I take the measurement (cuz the cut-out isn't totally vertical.)

From this position, I can fall out and swim easily in any class of water.

BTW, cheajack has hit on an important principle -- when things go wrong, always blame the equipment. . .

Ocoee bow or stern

Post by Stingray »

I've been told my saddle was placed inside the ocoee maybe in the right spot but faceing the wrong way.

?????

How can I make sure its the stern?

I got this boat with the saddle height of 10 inches & had to add 4 inch on the back to push me forward enough to paddle it.
Silly me I paddled like that for more then a year. Silly everyone else too. It took someone that long to notice it.
