Overheard a few days ago . . .

(I posted this in the Winter Sports forum a few days ago, but I think it's worth reposting here):
So for a few years now I have heard -- and stubbornly rejected as blasphemy -- the notion that telemarking is the winter equivalent of C1ing.
But a few days ago, taking advantage of the roughly 40 inches of snow we've gotten here in the DC area over the last week, I decided to try telemarking again.
There I was on the mountain, taking a break halfway down, when an alpine skier comes over to me and says:
"Gee, that looks like a lot of fun. But how do your knees stand it?"
I had to laugh! I guess it must be the winter equivalent, after all.
