hey ya'll,

i'm in the market for some elbow/forearm pads. it seems--at least here in the southeast--that banging across rocks w/ my arms and elbows is an inevitable side effect of staying in the boat and rolling.

after doing a search on the site, it seems like this question hasn't been entertained in a few years. what are elbow pads are ya'll using, and do you like 'em?

i appreciate any input...

I have 661 pads that I wear when i'm hero boating or in a shorty, and those are the bomb. I also have some Brand-X ones which I wear with my drysuit, and they're pretty good and dam cheap too.

I dislike elbow pads, and tend to wear them only if I think I'm going to be at risk of suddenly hitting rocks; for most runs good technique, and premptively "handing off" rocks is more than sufficient.

I have a pair of Six Six One pads, they have full elbow and forearm protection with a stiff plastic shell. I know people that like foam and light plastic reinforcement pads better, but I find that plastic ones really work when it counts. I would recommend trying on several pairs before you settle on one. Go to a bike store that specializes in Mt. biking, downhill in particular, and sometimes they have a good selection. Also Hockey and Lacrosse elbow pads work well if you can't find anything that works for you.

Shred Ready elbow pads, $30 and worth it. Tough, good fitting, and great protection, also easily available.

Just started using elbow pads this year....

....and surprised at how soon they feel comfortable wearing, how they don't get in the way, and you almost stop noticing they are on. Not sure if these are better or worst than rest, but got a pair of EVS free from them sponsoring our local race/rodeo series. Believe they are also a economical line ($18 or less). BTW a good friend swears by their elastic/velcro shoulder brace.

I've been using the six six one 2x4 pads and like them a lot. they aren't the most bomber protection available, but i've taken lots of elbow/arm shots with them and they are pretty good. key thing is they're comfortable enough to wear all the time.... unlike josh, i never know when i'm going to take a hit.
