Everyone that lives in Knoxville be sure to check out the new issue of Blank this week (it's an indy paper available for free downtown sort of like MetroPulse)
Alex got them to do an article. They mention ALF and The Canoe Movie. The best part is they got a sick shot on the cover of (Lengthy or Longboatin?) running Baby Falls in a 16 ft boat. Sorry I missed meeting you two during the early part of ALF. It is a sick shot. Louie, you or Alex need to mail them a copy.

Thanks for writing and submitting the article Alex. It's good to see it getting some press! I'd like to see a copy if anyone scans it or finds it available online.

Good reminder - periodically we should all be doing something to get ww canoeing into our local media.

Last year, Tom (fullgnarlzoc) and I won an amateur flatwater canoe race in Harrisburg. Afterward, a reporter came up to interview us and I made it a point to say that were really whitewater canoeists and we wanted to shed some light on our sport and protecting the waterways we use for recreation.
Well, it was printed that were were whitewater rafters and blah blah blah. I've discovered you can't say the word whitewater to somebody without them thinking of rafting. It's a total shame.

Rusty, the editor said theres also a online version. It's a week away, but I'll post a link as soon as I get it.
Oh yeah. I made sure that we were on the same page here. I told him this is whitewater canoeing, not rafting or kayaking. That is what prompted him to make it a front page article. The dude also want's to give OC1 a try.

i agree that publicity for ww canoeing is great. there was a big article today in the guelph (ontario) herald about the club i paddle with - the guelph kayak club. despite the name, there is a pretty decent contingent of open boaters - many of whom willingly lend out their equipment to give other people a taste. that's how i got started. the kayakers that make up most of the membership are also very generous and helpful!
there is talk here of both dewatering one big slide/drop many people run and cutting off the access b/c the trail got purchased by a development company. while the article doesn't mention that issue, i think it's great because exposing the public to the popularity of river-related recreation has the potential to pay huge dividends down the road in dam/access battles (not to mention attracting more users!).
here's the link:

it's not earth shattering(and i had nothing to do with it)...but i agree with yarnellboat that getting ww canoeing in the news is good for everybody. i'd be interested to see some other links about coverage the sport gets in other places.
