K12C1 Conversion Question...
Quick c1 conversion question...
I am 175 lbs 6'1 looking for playboat (not really river-runner) to convert to c1 and trying to figure out volume. Local shop said the used Dagger Honcho in their store is too short for c1 conversion??
I thought I was right on track with that boat for my size for a conversion; 26" width, 66 gallons, weight range 170-260. Am I way off?
There is also a used WS EZG 60 nearby, is this a better choice for more playful boat/ my size?
Thanks and hello from Kentucky!

Too light for EZG60
At your weight the EZG50 would be a better playboat. I weigh ~200 and the 60 would probably be about right if I actually knew how to do any playboat moves. Regardless, I really like the EZGs as C1s.
I'm in Clemson, if you're down this way and want to try out the 60.

think the honcho would be alright but would be more a river runner.
What type of playboat do you want new scud type or older slicey type.
Look at the Jackson All Star or Project 52 for new school
XXX or session for older style.
Ask what do you want to do with this boat and then you can go from there

playboat type...
Thanks for the guidance thus far!
I have been reading previous threads and been concerned with getting a playboat converted and then it being too low volume for a c1...
BUT I do want to mess around with cartwheels, etc. so I would like to be able to get the ends under. Probably something newer school, little snubbier (real word?)...
For park n' play fun maybe stick around 50ish gallons??

Here is what I have found with playboats. In general I think they suck to paddle down river mainly cause of their short length doesn't allow for much speed. I prefer the older slicey boats because most have more speed than the new boats and can still cartwheel and surf well. But if you are going to be mainly doing park and play then the new boats are going to allow you to do more "moves" though I still think cartwheeling an older playboat is more fun.
So if you go newer I would look at the
All star
Project 52
Fluid Nemesis
Fluid Flirt (great conversion and actually paddles pretty well)
Necky playboats were great too
I think all the new playboats make good conversions just look at size if you are going to park n play in a small hole mostly then get a boat where you are in the middle to upper weight range if you are going to do a lot of river running and stop and play then I would go for a boat where you are on the lower end of the weight range.
I have seen people paddle very well in c1 playboats I just have never enjoyed paddling the short stubby boats much so this is just my opinion.

have an 2006 jackson allstar available locally but can't seem to find any volume specs. the 2010 specs look good for my size but i know they change up the allstars each year. any insight?
