It was great to see so many kids out there today in open boats (75+?)
That was the most fun I've had on the river in a while. Props to The Lost Tribe Dads/Scout leaders for putting that event on and to GDI and Mohawk for loaning canoes. I brought a L'Edge, Spanish fly and blackfly today too. The kids had a blast trying all of the different boats (there were tons of ocoees, zooms, vipers, tandem boats etc. in the group also)
It was really cool to see how enthusiastic the kids were. I think a couple of people got hooked on open boating today.

Dooley, it was a pleasure meeting you on the River Sunday. We really appreciate you taking the time to come hang out with the Tribe and the Boy Scouts from the Upper Cumberland. I heard one of the boys last night telling his mom & dad he wanted a L'Edge for his birthday and he's a first year paddler! I also wanted to thank Louie with GDI for your generosity providing the Canoes and to Mohawk for your generosity in providing canoes. We captured several photos that we will be posting very soon. Thank you again for helping us promote this awesome sport to this next generation of paddlers. We can't wait to do it again. See you on a River soon!

The lost Tribe Hit one outta the park this weekend thanks to all of their friends! 107 paddlers on the Hiawassee & 8 on the Pigeon Sat. 75 on the Hiawassee Sun. 24 of which were brand new! Ran The Canoe Movie Sat. night for lots of wide eyed boys that didn't know canoes could do that stuff. Thanks to Swimming Mexican & Mr Deadlegs & everyone else that came to paddle with us Sat. Louie & Richard (Mohawk Canoes) made the weekend with the use of their boats! The older boys got to try all the boats they have seen & heard about & there was a boat for everybody.
Just when it couldn't get any better; Dooley shows up to paddle with the guys after they watched him in the movie the night before! So cool to watch him talk & paddle with them. I heard a lot of talk about how open boats are harder but a lot more cool. It'll be hard to top this one! We can't thank everybody enough!!
Brett,
Hiawasee

Dooley - thank you for coming out to paddle with us and for letting me paddle the BlackFly ... thanks for letting us climb into the L'edge and test it out i liked the look and wished i would have been able to climb in it myself but it was the kids weekend to test boats

Mohawk and Richard - THANKS for letting us use boats the youth had alot of fun in the boats ... with out those boats and the boats from the GDI and Trey this weekend wouldnt have been as memorable as it was ...
the GDI - Louie, Swimming Mexican, Dick and Dopey, and whom ever i have forgotten or didnt know whose boats we borrowed ... THANK YOU ... if it werent for the boats outfitted and air bags we wouldnt have gotten 7 scouts on the Dirty Pigeon on Saturday ... for which i heard they had a blast ...

It was a pleasure. I'm glad I my help was appreciated. I caught a lot of h3ll from the GDI for not runnin the Rusel Fork on Saturday but they'll get over it, I already have, it was a worthy cause. I remember when my teachers hat to put up with me and my swims, it wasn't pretty. Anyhow, we'll do it again next year, and the year after that, and so forth.

What they said............Plus a big thanks to David Fox (wh2oFox) who came out Saturday and camped out with us and helped us on Sunday too ! It's a rare breed that can put up with us BOTH days.
Mohawk.... What can we say Richard and Greg but thanks; your boats were very much used and abused! LOL! Our 1st year kids actually wrapped one of the boats on the lower half of the river! Luckily it popped out and we were able to use it again on Sunday.....( I know where you can get a slightly used NOVA cheap)
The Mexican was great to paddle with and helped the kids with some technique, I think he had a little fun too. Alhough, I think he stayed around for the food. We do eat well on this weekend and GOOD LORD he took full advantage, man that boy can eat ! ( he did say something about not having any Salsa though )
GDI, Louie sorry we took some of your gang this weekend but I guarandamn tee that they were put to good use, as were your boats. Thanks. Maybe we can talk you into puttin up with us next year !
Dooley, everyone was glad to see ur boats... uh,,, errr I mean you, show up. It's always great to see someone so recognized in the sport giving back. The kids were really stoked when they realized that you were the guy in the movie the night before. You give Esquif and WW canoeists a good reputation. I ran into one family while I was setting a throw rope on Devils shoals who were canoeing on the river that day just because they saw the posts on the website, they heard that you were gonna be there and their young daughter (8 or 10) wanted to get you to autograph their copy of the "Canoe Movie". I had to tell them you weren't there but you would be the next day. The parents recognized me as one of the tribe from the movie but the kid wasn't interested in MY autograph............Hmmmmmm, Whats up with that !!
Esprit, thanks so much Jim for your ideas to help us out. We will come up with a way to take you up on your most generous offer.
We had a good SAFE weekend, lots of kids turned onto a sport they may have never been exposed to. Lots of smiles and hopefully kids hittin parents up for boats! Thanks to all who helped and to all who wished they could be there.
Same time next year, put it on your Calendars now!!!
Allright , thats enough hugs and kisses, now someone take me paddlin !!!
