who only uses...

Post by french erick »

(I must be going loopy...I thought I had posted this this am???)

... a bulkhead in their canoes? And no thigh straps.
I saw Kelvin, without any in his zoom. I liked the hopping in and out easy. I also felt that it forced me somehow to be more accurate on my lines...Also found I could transfer weight from side to side more freely as and when required.

I can roll my lude in flat water but never when it counts (my bum comes out as I'm never very fast for the set up).

Should I put straps back in or is there anything I should work on?
I have no vids as noone thinks I'm worth filming :D
Outfitting is bog standard pyranha one slightly customised (knee holes pushed 1" more outside).

If you can't stay in the boat than your bulkhead doesn't fit. I d add some foam.

I found this out in the pool this week. I took my foam sandals and crammed them between my legs and the thigh hooks and my ability to control the boat in a roll attempt more than doubled.

I have the Esquif bulkhead (similar to the Beluga one) in my Prelude. I carved it so that it's so tight that when I'm wearing a drysuit (9 months of the year in Oregon) I have to put water on my thighs to slide them in all the way.

I only use a bulkhead and it rides mid thigh. No problems staying in the boat when rolling.

I've set up one OC-1 bulkhead only, but the outfitting is loose--- I don't roll open boats, and if I flip, I want to drop out easily. So the outfitting is just tight enough for good control, no more.

Phil- assuming yes is for me OP guy...yes I have foot pegs in.

To all. I'll try to extend the bulkead top towards my upper thighs some and work on that.

I'll probably have to use a few doses of the MTFU medecine ( man the **** up) too.
