C-Squirt stuff - New vid and I'm DONE

I'm looking to pick up a C-1 squirt boat and being that I'm geographically challenged (Utah) there's not much to pick from. Converting a standard squirt boat might be the easiest route... so, the question- is it feasable to convert a standard squirt to Cquirt?

Looking at this boat and a New Wave Fish, suggestions and comments on the two?

not a csquirt expert but I don't think a squirt conversion would work out well. There is not enough stability in a k squirt

Not sure if and how well it would work.
One challengingpart would be to get the balance of the boat right. You would have to move quite a bit foward to get it properly balanced, and that might end up being quite challenging and might require somne modifications of the cockpit rim.
The other issue I see with that particular boat is it's narrowness. According to the PS composites website the Fish is only 22.5 inches wide. That boat might end up being too unstable.
TGG!

Doable for some designs? Yes.

Cheaper than buying and shipping? No.

Worthwhile? Not likely... but you never know!

Any kayak will need the cockpit rim cut out - many will be too small, pretty much all (true) squirt boats will need the cockpit area moved forward (balance point is different in a Cquirt as you have air, not legs, in front of you. Converting a "normal" kayak you notice this... in a Cquirt you REALLY notice this (as in bow always in the air permanant bow squirt notice).

As noted MANY designs are "a bit" narrow. Of course, the Maven isn't exactly wide. If you found one that is, say, 24" wide or more, that would be a good starting point. Less than that and you are asking for an interesting paddling experience IMhO. (26, or better yet 28 " is ever better... but not likely to be found).

My advice? Look for an Acrobat and have it shipped. OR track down a slalom boat and cut it down, if you want to have a custom fit boat that should work OK-ish, if look a little funny.

I'm assuming purchasing a new Acrobat, Ceemweaver, or Mentor is out.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm not finding much info on the Ceemweaver and the Mentor. Whats the best online resource? I'm already looking on Angst, BTW.

My hangup with the Acrobat is how long it is.. I've paddled a K bigfoot and a shorter version and really pref the short wide boat. Suggestions?

Search this site - images and info galore... more here on those two boats than anywhere else (not that my lazy self has gotten them in the Museum yet...). Only one Ceemweaver built to date I believe, and two Mentor's (I have one... but then, I designed it, so I better!).

Acrobat can be cut shorter:) A "Master cut" is about 10' long, though you could easily shorten it a foot more by rounding the ends (shred cut is the term I think from the K world).

If you want to run rivers and bow and stern squirt, and surf, go Acrobat.

If you really want to sink, Ceemweaver (Jim Snyder design), or Mentor (my design).

There is also the Oxygen, but like the Maven, it is an intriguing design that is very difficult to paddle  .

The big plus of Acrobats is you can find them used... it is very difficult to find the others used due to low production (1 Ceemweaver, 2 Mentors, 4 Mavens, and I think 11 Oxygens).

There is also the Meltdown from the UK. If the exchange rates get better I may have to order one of those myself while the mold is still kicking around (for the "museum" ;) ). I've heard cut down it will mystery, but is really good cruising cquirt... but I've never seen one in person (I don't think there is one on this continent).

only one ceemweaver??? And here I looked all through the site and found this http://vimeo.com/5058059 nice vid and got all excited :) I think I recognized the ceemweaver from a pool session vid on youtube. Something with the bottom...

What boat is at 8:28 and 11:08? Is that a Sith?

How much do new csquirts run?

I can't get Vimeo to load (my connection is slooooowww at the moment - yes, AdkSara IS working on the calendar (almost done too! - we have one little problem we're working on, but hope to have it resolved ASAP, or use a different image if we have to)), but when I do I'll do my best to identify the other boat.

Price? PS Composite base price is 1800 according to their site - but if you are having a new one built go for the float chop if you can (admittedly, then you have to get on-site, but it is worth it).

Mentor, not sure. I won't be selling another one for what I sold the last one to Mick for - I lost money on that just in materials! I'd say PM him for an unbiased opinion on the boat, ask me questions, and if you get serious I'll come up with a price. Would be cheaper than PS to build, but my work isn't as nice as theirs either. I do tend to like to use more kevlar than they do in a "base" layup, however:).

I wish I had both boats to give you an honest review of each. The Mentor will sink, we've proven that (even I have - deepest I've ever gone... not that that is saying much!). I suspect a Ceemweaver cut appropriately would as well.

If you are heavy enough (180 or 190+), and can fit in an Acrobat, I suspect you could sink that too, if it was cut low enough. The problem with the Acrobat and mystery moves is really lighter folks like me (155-165 lbs)... and is why I designed the Maven then Mentor.

That is a Wavesport X.

Here is the REALLY good footage with the Ceemweaver. Ian Thomson paddling it at the 2008 JimiCup:

Scott's review of the Acrobat : Hahahahahahahaha. Ha. Can hardly get in one and then it sits about 2" under water. Stable? Not at 200#+.

Viper : its like a mullet - business (river runner) up front, party (squirt)in the back . Fast. Fun.

Ceemweaver :Probably the most comfortable, easy to get into glass boat like that I've tried. Stable, smooth. Cartwheel machine. intriguing, but not for me. I decided I really prefer surface boats!

Never saw a k-squirt that looked convertible unless you were tiny. IMHO.

An X - Jim Norton's!

You still need to try out the Foreplay and the XXX Gumpy!

Mastro works a k to c convert for mid size folks. If ya can find one.
