So my awesome sister got me a got me a GoPro for my birthday and I have a few questions about mounting it. Do you trust the 3M sticky crap or go for something stronger/more perminant? What kind ot teathers have you you guys come up with for backup security? I have been thinking about using some hight test fishing line as a teather. Any other hints or tricks for using them will be apreciated.
Thanks,
Nate

I was leery of using an adhesive mount, so I just bolted a "Tripod Adapter Mount" (see "Accessories", on their web-page) onto the forehead of my helmet, and screwed the GoPro housing onto it. It works well, and is easily adjustable.
And, yes, I tether the whole thing onto the helmet with light accessory cord.

C'est l'aviron. . . !
Don't trust the 3M adhesive alone. The 3M adhesive mount with the camera attached has come off the back of my kayak twice: once tapped by another kayak on a large surfing wave and once for an unknown reason. Having it tethered to the boat turned out to be pretty important.
In neither instance of adhesive failure was either the air temperature or the water temperature very warm and, consequently, neither was the boat (relevant to process for intentional removal).

My GoPro came with a flat mount (maybe for display) that I duck-taped to my deck. Can't say that I ever tested it by rolling, but I had the camera tethered to the grab loop for safety. It would have taken a mighty whack to knock that thing off anyway.
If you have the same platform, try shimming the platform with something if you need to steady it on a curved surface.
